Tips For Personalizing Your Wedding Design

Your wedding is an important day of your life – the day when you and your partner vow to spend the rest of your lives together. As you plan for this special day, considering ways to personalize your event is paramount.

After all, your relationship is unlike anyone else’s, so why should your wedding be any different?

Personalizing your event is an opportunity to showcase your personality as a couple and create a truly one-of-a-kind celebration.

So keep reading as we give you some tips and offer real-life examples of how to add meaningful touches that match your unique love story.

How do you want the wedding to feel?

Before picking out color palettes and menu items, think about the overall feel and vibe you want to achieve. Ultimately, this is what will inspire the design.

Do you want a formal wedding or something more carefree? If you aim for fun and whimsical, you might lean towards more playful flower and invitation designs. Traditional calligraphy and engraved invitations would be more suitable for a black-tie affair.

Creating a vision board is a great way to get an idea of what you’re going for. Head to Pinterest and pin everything you love. The images don’t even have to be wedding related. This is all about the broad strokes and the big picture. You’re not committing to anything.

If you’re working with us, you’ll then send us your Pinterest board. We’ll be able to see what you like regarding textures, styles, and colors. Again, you can change anything at any time. This is just a way for us to know where you’re at so we can fill in the details later.

Use Your Wedding Website

If you have a wedding website set up, use it to highlight your love story and get guests excited about the event.

Write about how you and your fiancé met and/or how they proposed. Include snippets about your wedding party and how you know each person.

You don’t have to write a memoir, and it doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just fun to add a few personal details – some of which your guests may not know.

Give a Meaningful Welcome Gift

Your welcome gifts are another way to add a personal touch to your celebration. Tell your story by including things that speak to your personalities or are specific to where you’re from.

For example, if you both love chocolate-covered pretzels, include a nicely-wrapped bag of your favorite treat. Or, if you both grew up in South Carolina, add a pack of Pecan Pralines and a mini bottle of your drink of choice.

Play with the Escort Card Display

The escort card display can be a fun place to play with personalization while still keeping the look elegant. Here are a few real wedding examples:

  • One of our brides was the captain of a mega yacht, and the groom was her first mate. So, we created escort cards that looked like miniature messages in a bottle.
  • For another wedding, the couple were scientists. So, the escort cards were designed using test tubes filled with Pop Rocks.
  • One art-collecting couple’s escort cards were mini easels with the guests’ names painted on petite canvases at each place setting.

In other words, think about things that are personal to you but that will also resonate with your guests. And remember, it’s best that they understand what something means to you. Otherwise, the details might seem random.

Create Little (or big) Smile Moments

For one couple, we filled fake prescription bottles with Tic-Tacs and directions that read, “Take two, and don’t call us in the morning.” It was the perfect party favor for a couple of doctors to give to their guests. And it created what we call “little smile moments” – a brief moment of laughter or joy nobody is expecting.

We’ve also helped clients create big smile moments. Like when the groom wanted to surprise his bride by having the band sing an acapella version of their favorite song during the ceremony. It was an awe-inspiring moment for the guests too!

And then, there was the time we helped a couple completely customize their space to reflect their love of art. Imagine being a guest walking down the hallway lined with original paintings by the couple. It was like their very own gallery opening!

Work With Your Wedding Planner

There are so many ways to add personal touches to your wedding celebration! In fact, when you start thinking about all the possibilities, it might feel a bit overwhelming. Where should you even begin?

We always start with a blank canvas, a phone call, and a personal connection.. So, reach out. Dream out loud. And let us capture your vision. You may not even know what that vision is yet, and that’s 100% okay. We’ll collaborate with you to discover the details.

Ready to create some smile moments of your own? Let’s get started!
